Activity 1: Reducing exposure to Second-hand Smoke 

  • Kindly go through various Do’s for reducing exposure to Second-hand Smoke.

Do’s 

    • Talk about it by having a sit down with everyone at your home, car/transport, and office and talk about ways to reduce second-hand smoke.
  • Make a list of the reasons for reducing smoke in your home, car/transport, or office.
  • Set a date that you are going to reduce smoke in your home, car/transport, or office.
  • Ask others not to smoke in your home, car/transport, or office. Use the list of reasons you came up with to tell others why.
  • Set up an area outside for people who smoke. Sit outside or go for a walk with your family or friends.
    • Make a sign or put up a sticker or magnet in your home, car/transport, or office that lets people know that you don’t smoke in these places.
    • Remove all ashtrays, lighters, matches, and smoking paraphernalia from inside your home, car/transport, or office. Clean out your ashtray and remove it or fill it with something else like candies or coins.
    • Wash your hands, brush your teeth or use mouthwash and change your clothes if you smoke after having a cigarette.
  • Ask friends, family, relatives, and colleagues not to smoke in your home, car/transport, or office.
  • Thank your friends, family, relatives, and colleagues for helping you to reduce or eliminate smoke from your home, car, or office.
  • CELEBRATE! Throw a party, have a special dinner, a movie night or do something you love to celebrate a smoke-free environment.

Don’ts

  • Given below are some Don’ts: ways that are ineffective in reducing Second-hand Smoke exposure.
      • Opening a window
      • Turning a fan on
      • Closing a door
      • Spraying air freshener
      • Smoking in another room
      • Using air purifier
      • Blowing smoke in another direction 
      • None

Day-3 Activity-3

Activity 3: Now since you know the harms of second hand smoke, We ask you to read the given messages about the harms of exposure to tobacco smoke. Please read the messages and let us know how serious according to you is the impact/harm described: 1 (average), 2 (serious), and 3(very serious) 


Tobacco smoke exposure (direct or indirect) damages your lungs, increases the risk of lung infection and causes lung disease.

According to the reports the average life expectancy is shortened on tobacco smoke exposure for eg: smokers live 10 years lesser compared to non-smokers

Cigarettes smoke exposure affect your teeth, gums, and breathe which makes people around you noticing that.

Continuous tobacco smoke exposure can make your bones weak and easier to break

Your family members can get sick if anyone smokes inside home. Think again before you smoke or let others smoke inside the house.

Exposure to tobacco smoke seriously endangers children’s health and can cause severe ear infections, asthma, poor lung function, and, and sudden infant death.

Breathing tobacco smoke is harmful to health. Even if it happens occasionally/ once a while breathing in of others tobacco smoke can cause serious health problems to you.

Smoking in cars or shared transport is dangerous. Even with the windows rolled down, you and your passengers will still inhale dangerous second-hand smoke.

Breathing other people’s cigarette smoke causes many diseases, including lung cancer, breast cancer, and heart disease.
